I'm no expert when it comes to Flowerhorns and only have just the one now. I'm a cichla guy mostly (over 30 total) but have gotten many compliments on this guy! I thought I'd bring him to the table here to people who may know what their looking at and could rate or comment on him.. I've had him around 6 months now and bought him at around 3" from a LFS for $180 I was told by the LFS he was imported from Taiwan. He's now pushing 8" or 9". and his name is Einstein.. Thanks in advance!!

Very nice hump and overall body structure, your fish is only missing some more color but in general terms it is a very good looking FH.

Cheers.

Thanks!! Yeah I was told he had one hell of a KOK!! Whatever that means, guessing his hump!

Anyone else?? Rate, Rate, Rate... Should a try breeding him??

As far as the Taiwan comment goes, I would disregard it. Unless they themselves imported it from Taiwan of course, but that isn't likely. They probably didn't grow it out, which is the only situation in which they would have made money off of an import. Good body shape and head, obviously, but yeah, the colors are a bit drab and dull.

As far as breeding, that's up to you, but since you don't know

A. Where it came from for sure and
B. What exactly is is.

I personally wouldn't, but other people have other standards.

If I had to rate you fish I would give him a 9 but why you want to have him graded?, I mean if you feel pleased with your fish you shouldnt care about what people say.

I have seen ppl in this board grading very nice FH with 6 or 5 just because some people are very demanding and snob about the beauty standars of this kind of fish.

Although your FH is an excelent FH, I dont think he can get to the master piece cathegory and that just because of the color, that of course in my personal opinion, I dont consider myself an expert at all, here there are very experienced FH keepers just as @Water, @DR, let see what they say.

LOL rufus king strikes again.....1 how do you kno if the fish was imported or not....last I checked there are not that many FH breeders in Colorado or in the USA...2 it is not that hard to get an imported fish and fish stores import fish alll the time
3 do u not read the threads??? He said he paid 180 at 3" I think they made plenty of money of that fish....you can get a FH just like that at 3" from Dave at fengshui for $70

So please disregard rufus kings comments

Thanks for everyone's feedback so far!! And perhaps I can help his colors along a bit with diet.. Up to this point I have fed him mostly fresh raw shrimp. But yet a day ago started him on hikari jumbo carnisticks soaked in Vida Chem...We'll see if it does anything for his coloring.

As far as rating him, I'm just interested in what FH enthuses that know a thing or two about FH's think is all. I know from seeing different threads out there some people really take it vary serious.. And since I paid so much for him wanted to see if he in fact was really worth that.

The LFS i got it from specializes in FH imports and are praised in the quality of FH they have and sell. Me knowing little to no knowledge of FH but love the giant hump, just kind of jumped in. But I know for a fact it came from Taiwan because it's plastered all over their website and store.

Eitherway, he is one of my coolest fish outside of my Cichla and has a crazy cool personality, very cool fish to have the FH!!

He's my flowerhorn too and I gotta say these pics don't do his colors justice. He's really more pink and lavender than he looks here. Regardless, he's an awesome fish and a huge asset to our group. I used to think were weird looking, but Einstein (that's his name) has totally changed my mind! Love these fish!!!! Thanks for all the nice comments everyone!
