If the covid thing calms down and they still have the show i might bring my flowerhorn to a competition near Chicago later in the year. Don't plan on winning thought it might be a fun day tho. What do you think of him. Ps I forgot how hard it is to get pictures of your fish20200518_210628.jpg

I am not very good at ranking, it's a good fish, better than big belly red dragons I see nowadays. What type of competition?

I'm not sure if they are doing it anymore the guy I bought the flowerhorn from was talking about ufa competition i think aquashella

Personally if I had to rank it I would say it's an A-. Mainly the points where he loses out on is that his color doesn't cover his face (bald spot between the eyes, mouth and nose), and his flowerline isn't straight and uniform along with it having a visable break in the line. His flowerline is nice but it has a pretty noticable upwards curve to it. Honestly he is a very nice looking FH and something to be proud of. He'd honeslty have the same grading I'd give my old male I had a couple years ago. This here was my male (Jr.).

Groom the heck out of him. I see some deep red in there just dying to show itself.

If he's solo get him used to a mirror. 15 minutes or so a day and you'll start seeing a difference. He has some really deep red stashed away in there.

Got any good links on the best way to do that

What Ozzie73 said. There are a lot of bad resources out there which might recommend you some or few of extremely high temperature, extremely high protein food, tiny tanks. Just focus on good health and you will have a nice fish. Mirror does a good job of grooming.
