I am looking for a good place to find some solid statistics done on the effect of rattlesnake roundups on populations. Have any snakes been completely extirpated from a county? Is there a study on the effects of gassing burrows? Any info helps.

Thanks guys.

Check with Joe Collins at KU Herp Society. He has done alot of work with Kansas herp distribution in relationship to counties and there are/were some rattlesnake round-ups in some of the areas he has worked. You also may be able to find some stuff at the website, Center for North American Herpetology (CNAH).

But I warn you about dealing with Joe, he has had elective surgery to better allow him to pat himself on the back. Once he gets done telling you about all the great things he has done, he will allow you to tell him how great he is.

I have been in areas were they do rattlesnake round up and i can tell you that snakes act much different in a area they do do it compared to places they dont. You have to be VERY irritating to a rattler in the round up areas to get them to rattle. They are VERY quite, compared to areas were they are not allowed to were the snakes rattle like normal. Kinda creepy especially with some hands on exp. and it is defiantly adaption at work. Let us know what you find out.
