I have a pair of King henlei x BDs and a pair of marbles. My female hybrid is getting chunks taken out of her outer disc. This has been going on for months now even before I bought them off a mate. Its starting to concern me, this hybrid pair have been together since they were pups with no problems until this year.

99% sure its the male hybrid causing the damage but cant work out why?
They all range from 9"-12" in size and the males are no where near mature so its not like he's trying to breed with her.

All the other rays are spotless and are they arent in a bare tank, they have sand, bogwood, rocks and plants to play around with so cant see its an act of being bored.

Any views welcomed, hoping the male will grow out of it soon, what do you think? Cheers

What is your feeding regimen. I notice mine tend to bite and be more nippy when hungry.

It could be a feeding issue,or it could be he's just an aggressive ray. I have a leo that does the same thing the only time it seems to stop is when I switch him over to another tank and then it might only be a few weeks. He also seems to pick on lighter rays more than darker ones. There may be no cure.

Yes its as if you upset the balance with these ie moving them or any of the other rays it stops for couple of weeks.

Just great shame as their great pair and been together nearly all their lives. Not sure if its causing her great stress, suppose if doesnt stop i'll have to split as not fair on her.

Maybe pm Mike at h20 about this. He must have this issue all the time with that many rays. Hopefully he has a trick you can try because it would be a shame to break that pair up.

Thanks.

Just had to section male off as she is seriosly stressed out. Often sticks herself to back of tank to get away from him. Stuck marbles up for sale then poss look at getting near mature male leo to give him some stick or do you think he'll be more interested in her?

I think your male may just be a dick and no matter what you add it will keep at the female. I have certain rays even in a big group of 12 that just seem to pick on certain other rays and leave evrything else alone. Don't know the reason why but I do find my flower and tiger are picked on more than any other rays so I'm guessing it's a color thing.

mine has carmed down now and the female started eating

i would try letting the female heal 100% then put them back together. or have u already been doing this?
