Over the past week my female motoro has been bitten repeatedly in the same place by the male and consequently the wound doesn't seem to be healing.
So yesterday I decided to add salt, initially at half dose with a plan to add the other half today. However, later in the day, both rays unusually showed a lack of interest in their food although they did eat most of it eventually.
Now today I witnessed the pair actually mating
. However, at feeding time the female didn't bother to eat and the male only showed little interest in the food
.
Is it usual for rays to lose interest in feeding during mating?
Or is it possible that the addition of salt has affected their appetite?
Do you think that the change in salinity may have actually triggered the rays to mate?
Should I continue with the planned salt treatment or just water change it out?
Female is 11", male is 10" and his claspers seem to have developed quickly, opening up over the past 2 months.
Water temp is 82*F, pH = 7.7, Ammonia = 0, Nitrite = 0, Nitrate = 40
Any input appreciated, cheers.
