Ray Breeding Queries

Changing water often (or even better, have it automated) will help, I've heard. Making sure they are on a good, varied diet and are comfortable with enough space.

Make sure you've got at least one male and one female, and it is best if they are not related. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

What will I need to breed them? Some say it is harder to care for them than to breed them.

Also, what would generally be the average amount of pups for each species?

well i think if you want to breed them, you're going to have to take care of them so whats the difference...

As for the quantity of pups, from my experieces, they always start with about 3-5 and then as they reproduce a couple more times, you get more and more pups in each litter. The most i ever got out of 1 litter was 12 but she only had 3 for her first litter. Maybe it various from specie to specie but i find thats the trend with all the rays ive bred.

I think only a handful of us on here have bred black rays.
It's not the easiest thing in the world compared to some of the brown rays.

Wouldnt it be somewhat similar. Ive breed a couple species (none are black) but they all seem to be similar if not the same. I think the only reason why most people might think black rays are harder to breed is cuz theyre ALOT more expensive now and they treat them with better care than any other ray.

yes and no..... Motoros are by far the horniest bunch of rays around......
but your statment is true to some extent on the rarity of black rays breeding is in due part that its harder to get your hands on black rays.

Yeah, at one point I had young motoros being tossed into anything that would hold water just to make room for them all. Leos/hens were a lot less likely to breed. Pair of adult tigers I had didn't even like to be around each other, much less mate. Same with falkneri. I think some species just breed more readily in captivity than others.
