As some of you know I picked up a female marble motoro from John at ECZS last Friday. I have had my tank divided since I got her to let her accumulate to the tank and fatten up a bit.

I took the divider out last night and as soon as I did my male went right for her. However, I'm not sure what was going on exactly lol. My male was biting at her a little as expected but he didn't seem to be trying to flip her over and she was poking at him with her tail. I separated them again because I wanted to hear what you guys thought I didn't want it getting ugly.

I took a video and I'm trying to upload it but I'm not a Mac person and I'm stuck using my moms laptop while mine is being fixed. I took the video on my Blackberry so I will try and post it shortly. After I put the divider back up I inspected my female and her disk doesn't seem to have any bite marks or damage but like I said I separated them again as a precaution.

Any feedback? Should I let them go at it or what? By the way, my male is 9" and my female is just around 9" as well which is another fear of mine.

Well I think you should wait because the female needs to get to know the aquarium at first, then you need to grow the female until she is quite bigger than the male otherwise there is the risk that the male can kill her by forcing her to breed.
But let the vid come to take a better look. And pics too pls ;)

Female is most likely still a little small yet, but once they get preggers they get huge fast. Miine went from 11" to 15" over the length of her pregnancy.

It's weird because when they are divided they are both always up against the divider as if they want at one another but when the male is on her she wants nothing to do with him lol. Is it dangerous to let him get at her?

let them do their thing. They are one just getting use to one another. Two, if they are ready to breed, then nature will take its course..

Just make sure she is fat and healthy and acclimated. Then you just have to let it play its course they will eventually figure out a pecking order. Mine had a pretty rough start but the male hasn't bothered the female for a while now :)

okay I'll let them be tomorrow after my water change/cleaning. I'll just make sure to keep a close eye on them, thanks guys! I was just concerned seeing him be that aggressive with her but I'm sure if I let them be long enough he'll leave her be.

so I just took the divider out and dropped a good amount of blackworms in and the rays are actually eating together peacefully, go figure. Gonna keep a close eye on them but it looks like they are getting along now.

to tell the truth i would just leave the divider in for a week to let her settle in and start feeding then take the divider out and leave them to it and only put it back if you see real damage on the female and not just a few scraps and bite marks as that normal

the trying to stab the male with the tail is a good sign it means she wont put up with his crap

if and when you see bite marks post some pics as most breeders on mfk will be able to tell you if its time to step in
