anyone notice that rays tend to lighten and darken with diff substrate? i would asume they do aswell with day and night....i did a search and found a good read on breeding witch was usefull for me as i plan to breed, but no color changeing threads...my ray is eatting loads of food and i first had it on black sand then i took the sand out for a barebottom setup...at first my retic kept the chestnut brown it had with the sand but after a few days it got lighter...now this morning it is a tan/cream color...i never switch the tank just the substraight and my ray is eatting like a champ...the only thing diff. is i have some prazi pro in the system, could that make it change to a lighter color or is it just tring to blend into the bottom...below the bottom of the tank is a black table top so i would think it would have stayed darker...

i'll have to catch him in the morning...that is when he is almost white...i think the black table under the tank and the black backround makes him go darker through out the day...cause in the pics i took now he is close to the original color, not like in the morning....

i could compare his color to the fresh women folk i am getting for him tomarrow morning:woot:... he gets three, lucky basterd

be sure to post some pics of your new ones and hope they all come in in good shape. i have some pics of my guys i will try to post tonight. im thinking about taking out the black sand also and go with a lighter sand im not sure yet. i no i dont want to go bare bottom cause im not fond of the barebottom look might be easier to clean but rays like to be able to bury themselves, substrate looks better, and im sure it calms the rays down knowing they have a place to hide no matter what.

i will post pics...i also perfure sand bottom and natural look...just a pain to clean so offten...i will put some soft lake sand i have in a diff tank after the get into the big tank...
