I noticed yesterday that one of my rays has some discoloration around his outside edge. It is only a couple of small spots and it doesn't seem to bothering him but I would just like to know what it is. It does not look like any type of fungus or infection just like he is losing his pigment. He is about 7" and have had him for about 5 months. Water is good and he is still eating well. I have 3 total in a 210gal with 15 discus and a silver aro. Any imput would be helpful. Thanks

Has the discoloration always been that way or was it recent? Rays tend to get damage (very minor to them) around the disk and while the flesh will heal 100% the color can be a bit off.

Also what are your water params like? Your tank is PACKED!

it sounds more stress related to me.... what are your water parameters??

He has only had this for about 2 days. Water is good, am. 0, nitrite 0, ph. 7.5, nitrate about 15. I do a lot of waterchanges, overfiltrate and the discus are only anywhere from 3"-4". The only thing that has changed is about a month ago I added a 8" female to the tank but they don't seem to mind each other.

she might be stressing him a lil.... can you post some pictures...

If anything is stressing him i would think it would be the arowana.

never heard of a silver aro picking on a ray.....

I don't think it's the aro. The only time he even gets close to the bottom is when he tries to steal worms from the rays. He doesn't seem to be stressed but he can't tell me so you guys could be right. Do you think they could be biting each other? I have seen biting before but it doesn't really look the same. Has anyone tried melafix with rays before? I have used it on other fish and it healed them up pretty quick.
