This behavior started last night.

The back end will slowly lift up from the floor of the tank, disc, claspers, and stinger. Then when it reaches a certain point the ray will shoot forward about 2 feet, then repeat. He also seems suddenly skinny, I mean really noticable difference in just a day.

Does this sound like anything familiar to anyone? I dont think it's death curl, as it is just a lifting/curl of the back end.

do 25% water changes every other day

is the ray feeding ?

what are the water conditions ?

Water is pristine. The tank is set-up on a contious water change system. The ray ate on Friday, but not on Saturday. This is definatley not an issue of water quality.

I would still increase the water change volume per day.

Offer the ray a lot of live foods (ghost shrimp, blackworms, earthworms, clean feeder guppies, small crayfish, etc.).

Turn off the lights and leave him alone.

Water changes and food are the keys.

sounds like an internal parasite

if that is what it is then all of the suggestions above are usless

and the infestation must be treated

The Ray is dead.

The really strange thing is that he got very thin very quickly. I swear that on Friday all was well and he seemed thick and fit. By Sunday night he seemed extremely thin, to the point where I could see bone structure on his top side. He was eating very well up to this point, but things got bad very quickly.

Sorry to hear of your loss...I agree with the internal parasite theory. For a fish to lose weight so quickly it had to have been.
