Okay, please put my worries to rest. Is it even possible for a ray to bite through a pond liner (typical black firestone variety)? I tried, and it is damn hard, but I have one MM that likes to chew on things such as my so sponge filters! You see I was not able to fold the pond in perfectly on the bottom, there are some creases on the floor that are near impossible to smooth out, they are from the way the pond was folded in the box.

bertha the 24" female never got through a liner.... so im gonna say no

i just had a 8" leo chew an air hose right in half yesterday...

WOW!

I had a leak in my pond (45 mil Firestone liner) every two years. The rays would constantly chew at the algae that grew in the one area. I never could find the hole. I am not sure if they chewed through it, it cracked or a spine punctured it.

Good luck.

You have been to my place if one of my rays has not chewed thru the liner I would say no they cant. One thing if the liner is tight to the floors or walls how could they pull it up and chew on it with water pressure pushing it down? I can tell you make sure you remove the stingers fast, I have already had one of them puncture the liner. When the rays get all frenzied during feeding times they will push against the floor hard and any loose stinger can and will puncture the liner happened to me already. Sorry just read that you could not get the liner perfectly smooth cause so I see how they could chew it now. I think it would be hard to chew thru a liner and dont think you have much to worry about.

It did suck. Putting a new liner in was not fun.

Mike may have just nailed the scenario that got me into trouble. Shed spines were removed quickly but, occasionally they are hard to find.

Good luck.

Colin

You could always double line it with some batting in between, but then you are adding more money to the project.
