I saw a beat up retic stingray at the petshop a few weeks ago. I will be putting him in a 220 gallon tank soon with a jack Dempsey, rainbow cichlid and 2 blood parrots. He has an excellent appetite.

I am worried when he goes in the the tank he will have a hard time eating. I was thinking of putting Tupperware on the bottom of the tank and cut a hole which only the stingray can enter or just propping the front up. When I feed the Ray I will put the food into the cave and hopefully no other fish will be able to get to it.

I will appreciate any feed back or ideas. Thanks.

To late I have at it for two weeks. Trust me it is better in my tank then where it was I will post pictures of how I got it. Do you think its future tank is not suitable for him?

Do you think its future tank is not suitable for him?

no, thats fine for now..size wise anyway..not sure about the fish thats in the tank..you do have some aggressive fish so just keep a look out on aggression towards the ray.

its just that the last thing you want is a beat up ray..more so a retic. the least hardy of stingrays IMHO.
as far as feeding i would head to petsmart or petco and get one of the feeder handles..not sure what its called.
i totally agree its better off with you...good luck with him/her.

When I get home i will get some pictures but the edge of her disk was very rigged. She is in a 55 gallon tank now and her disk is around 4 inches. Should I leave her in the 55 alone for a little longer?

One blood parrot is territorial but one shows aggression when a fish tries to enter his statue. All the other fish show no aggression. All the fish in this tank 1-2 years old, except the jack which is around 10 years old. There were in a 55 gallon until two weeks ago they were moved to the 220.

I have rays in with my group of fish. I think I see a couple bites on the disk from the fish but I think they were just unsure at this point. I don't think I will see anymore down the road. If I do I know for myself I will be moving fish around. Good luck with your ray. I find I feed all the other food first in the tank then feed a little mix of earth worms and shrimp because the frontosa like the shrimp allot and will leave the worms for the rays but one the rays get over to everything the other fish back off but my rays are a good bit bigger.

Maybe a 32-50mm feeding tube would be an idea, put the tube where the ray is, and put food in the tube, it will sink down to him.

Good luck on your new ray, retics are fragile, but the fact that it is eating is a very good sign. Keep up the good work! Pics would be lovely :)
