Anyone feed smelt to their rays? do i need to cut the smelt into smaller pieces and remove the bones when feeding it to the rays?

Smelt seems to be the food of choice for my rays..... I feed exactly how I buy it from the grocery store..... Cleaned and beheaded....... I know there's still bones in it... I don't cut it up either, but the rays are pretty decent sized.

my rays are about 8" and 10" and the smelt that i get here from the market is about 6" i think it's too big. should i just cut it up?

Yeah, cut into into bite size (or close to it) chunks. Feed out the whole thing - heads and all. A little known fact is that the brain has outstanding nutrional value. Most people rule it out due to how small it is. Bones in fish actually are a good thing as well. It's a great way to get calcium to your livestock.
