Vendor said they fed there rays black worms, is there a difference from black worms vs night crawlers worms? My henlie won't eat the night crawlers, shrimp, even tried a gold fish and massivore pellets. Are there any other ray favorites.

isnt blackworms same as bloodworms? or am i wrong? i heard people use smelts and tilapia too

Thanks, yes I would like to know if blood worms are the same as black worms. May need to get some tomorrow

Blackworms are different than bloodworms. They are bought and fed live, and are typically fed to newborn rays. You can find them at some LFS, but they are not readily available, and they're not cheap-- both good reasons why you want to wean your young hen off them as soon as possible. Be patient, as weaning onto new foods can take some time, especially when the ray is new to the tank.

I would stick to market prawn; cut them in very small pieces at first, it takes time for a young ray to learn how to take larger pieces.

No this ray is about 10 inches it is not a baby ray. though she is new to the tank. How long does it take for them to start eating once they get to a new tank provided the conditions are optimal. Water par are fine. Though i noticed she looks a little reddish pink at the mouth area, anyone ever seen this before. When food is placed in tank she hovers over it, but its as if she smells it or tastes it, then moved on. Anyone else experience this? This my first henlie and she is a female, bummer. I am use to the hardy Motors and males, that in all my past experience get in the tank and stat eating right away. No I jump up in a bigger leauge and its not working, help getting nervous, as this is the most expensive fish I have every purchased..

i would chop up the earthworms into easy to eat pieces

i have the best luck w earthworms. it might take a few for her to adjust, its pretty normal if its wild caught.

yes she is wild caught..

Don't worry about the blackworms or bloodworms. They're too small for a 10" ray anyways. Keep trying a night crawler daily until she eats it. Eventually, hunger sets in & she'll relent. Then, pound her w/night crawlers.

+1 Totally agree

If you can go get your own earth worms, get them my rays big or small go nuts for earth worms out of the yard. Nightcrawlers are very good too make sure to cut them up into 1 inch pieces this makes it easier for them to eat then and gets the worm smell really going in your tank. Also if I get really desperate on feeding a ray because they won't eat I will go buy feeder guppies or especially ghost shrimp. Rays go nuts for these, live feeders. Expensive but always seems to work. But I know after people read this they are going to complain about the risk of internal parasites that live feeders carry and that's a risk but if your ray is at risk of starving to death. You might want to give it a try. First I would get earth worms from your yard or something, I know its getting out of season for that. My recommendation is trying that first then the rest. My new rays usually eat the day of placing them into the tank.
