Hey everyone, once again my 8" female hystirx has become inactive. Ive always figured out why before, but I really have no idea why she is this time. I thought I got rid of most of the problems.

The water is-
ph:8.5 I know its high, but shes been fine in it 6+ months, thats not it
Nitrites:0ppm
Nitrates: about 30 ppm (hard to read)
Ammonia: 0 ppm

Shes been in the tank for about 7 months now Im guessing maybe a little less, so its not acclimation. The nitrates have been higher then this before with no problems, so I have no reason to think thats it. Maybe theres a dirty filter pad? I'll check when Im done writing but I figure that would show ammonia or something.

She is in a 125 right now, the tanks divided with her having ~2/3rds of the tank. One the other side are some good sized tinfoil barbs and a pbass. At irst they were scarring her so I seperated them. She starteed to come out more, now shes hiding again. Maybe she can still she them?

And a big point, she is still eating well. I just got done feeding her. She ate two gigantic shrimp which is more then she usually eats, so her appities not down.

Thanks for any imput, I appreciate it all :)

I guess there is 1 element you left out......

TEMPERATURE???

Check it.

Seem alright.

Might want to monitor its flucuation if any?

can't see anything wrong really other than some times rays will be sulky if they are on there own. Also half a 125 seems quite small in terms of exploration space. Rays need things to keep them interested. Mine are always exploring the many spaces and objects in the tank.

Are the lights extremely bright at all? Also the nitrates you say are hard to read, could they be higher then what you think they are? What is your water change schedule like?

Matt

Lights are off. The nitrates are kinda hard to read, but they are deffinitly not any higher then that.

Im changing about 75% a week.

And whenever I look at the temp (several times a day) its always within 1 degree of what it was before

I have a female hystrix and she is relatively inactive. There may not be a problem-it may simply be the individual ray's "personality"

75% water changes per week might be stressing out your fishes. Do you do 75% water changes at one time or three seperate cleaning of 25% per changes? I believe if you keep up with your weekly water changes and do a 25% water changes would be most healthy for the fishes because new tap water provides little oxygen to the fish.

not true- my rectic is most active after the 3 50-65 percent water changes i do weekly, tap water hasnt changed in years

no stress coat either, gills are not burnt
