I am planning on getting my first pair of Motoro rays next month. They have been with the same person in a 75:eek: their whole life . From the looks of them they are very happy and healthy although I know they need a bigger tank. I was thinking of using a 36"x36"x12" acrylic for the transport home from our halfway point (about 3.5 hours total travel for the rays. A couple of questions:

Is this a good way to transpoert them or is their a better way?
Can I acclimate them from 6.8ph to 8 safely ? How much time should I take to do this? Also I have a 4'x2'x2' that I am going to house them in untill the 6' pond is complete.
Thanks in advance for the help

a rubbermaid cntainer might be better because it has a lid.... also get a battery air pump or 2 for the transport....I have done this with many rays....works great... you can acclimate them to 8 just do it slow.... if you have a heat pad put it under the container the rays in to keep warm.... a 120 gallon 4x2x2 is better than a 75... how big will this 6' pond be....

Why not just ask an LFS for some styrofoam boxes? It will be nice and dark which will keep the rays calm, and will maintain a decent temp while in transport. Not to mention that they are easy to handle as opposed to a large acrylic tank.

I use them all the time when moving fish. And the average temp out here around this time is -20c. After a few house in transport the water still remains warm.

If you're worried about arreation, drill a small hole in the top and run a and air line thru it and use a battery op. pump.

Use a large styro beer cooler from walmart. Easy to handle and large enough to hold a good volume of water even though you dont want the water more then a few inches deep (splashing).

Dont bother with the airpumps. Sloshing from the drive will dissolve more then enough 02 then a battery pump ever could...well maybe thats cause I drive a stick! haha

I have filled a 150 with wood with very little effect on the ph or . I can do the styros without an issue I was just thinking more water would be better for them. They are 10-12 inch disc each also was thinking of space as well. I have outlets in the van to plug in a heater and air if needed.
the pond ...er...tub will be 6 foot diameter and 2 foot deep.
Thanks to all for the imput it is helpful. Also any tips on getting new rays happy in there new home would be helpful. I have done tons of reading but just wanted to see if anything else is out there.
