I have one leo/henlei pup that although appears to be eating every time I put shrimp into the tank, does not seem to be gaining. I am unclear as to what is going on and am beginning to freak out a bit. I have treated her for parasite with Prazipro and although she seems to be attacking the shrimp and tearing it up, but the looks of it she is not getting any nutrients, or still has a parasite..

Any suggestions as she is losing weight daily and I do not want to lose this ray

i dealt with this with my tiger... i also noticed my tiger packs food in when the temp of the tank is 78-80degrees F.... you could try another dose of prazi or my cooler temp or maybe go for night crawlers-africans are a lil better if you can find them... good luck rudy

yeah.. whats the temp at? Ive had pups that didnt gain much. I just keep the temp at 86-88 and feed 4or5times a day with worms.. and if they will take it the pellets. Great way to put some meat on fast!!

African crawlers??? whats different?

I feed my rays crawlers, and bloodworms!

I hope its not a parasite, sounds like you have a magnificent ray.

I am having the same thing right now with my tiger eating lots and not gaining like I would like to see. I did notice he feeds way more at night time so i now feed him after the lights go out and now I notice him is gaining weight slowly. Hope this may help.

her head is totally indented today...not a good sign. I bought two ounces of black worm and put them in with the lights out...Will hope for the best

I would think she might have an internal parasite. Try the treatment for that again. Continue to feed as long as she will eat. GL.

I have seen this with newly imported rays before and I dont think it has anything to do with parasites at all. In my opinion it is from the stress of shipping the ray and could also be from ammonia in the bag during shipping to you, how was the water when you got the rays? did it smell and was it dirty? I had a henlei female come in from germany many months ago and the same exact thing happened and I lost the ray she never did eat anything for me. There is not to much more you can do Tim I would try and put some neon tetras in the tank I have had luck with them and rays that would not eat before. I very rarely see rays infected with parasites, I am going with by gut feeling and it is from the stress of shipping the ray and problems with the water in the bags. If her head is caved in she has most likely never eaten any food since she came in. Wish you the best of luck Mike.
