i know very little about rays but i am very interested. I have a 265g all glass that has a foot print of 8'x24''. Can this house any ray for life. If so which one. My local lfs has what they are calling tea cup's but i do not know enough to tell them apart just yet. Is there any thing that a prospecting new ray owner should now that may be different from other fish. -----------A little back ground--i have been keeping fish for 20yrs now and have done just about everything from cichlids to US natives to bichirs to a few payara species to puffers and many many small fish. I have also done some salt in my life but never a large show quality coral tank or anything. Any help would be fantastic,,,,thanks

tea cups are typically retics or humerosa/ orb type rays... there is no ray that can live in your tank for life... several years but not for life... read the stickys freshwater stingray profiles and why stingrays die by miles.... they will give you some good information

Go out and buy "Freshwater Stingrays" by Dr. Richard Ross. A must read for future ray keepers.

or the 'barrons' A complete pet owners guide to freshwater stingrays
also writen by Dr. Ross

Or you can just call me over and I can hook you up!

The rays at green tree are retics and they can be hit or miss. If you can get a good healthy one, acclimate him properly, keep your water clean, and good tankmates a male retic should last a LONG time in your tank!

Go for it!

Thanks for all the help. i am going to do alot more research and get my set-up just the way i want it with out cutting any corners. And then i am going to decide whether or not a ray is for me or not. I appreciate all the help and JD7.62 i will keep the offer in mind. thanks alot
