Ray Pond Sand Depth

How deep of a sand bed do you guys think I should have in my ray pond? Right now I doubt if I actually have an inch if I evened it all around the pool and I dont think it's enough for a good biological filter. I need some more media someplace in the system.

I'd do a couple of inches at the most. The thing to consider is making sure you don't end up with dead spots in it. Usually rays are pretty good about keeping substrate turned over.
