Did anyone on here use a liner to make a ray pond. A normal pond liner (koi pond) EPMD 45mil. I was reading Ernesto's thread and people say a ray will puncture a liner. How, with it's stinger? I personally wouldn't use a pop-up pool or anything like that, but a true pond liner should be fine. Anyone have proof to the contrary?

They (liners) are used all the time by ray keepers. Plenty use inflatable pools as well, and i haven't heard of a ray puncturing one with its barb. :screwy:

pond liners are usually in a solid form.... and rays dont just throw there barb into random thing

here is my temperary pond. I should be starting on my new pond this week. I am a little worried about how long water can stay in the pond before the glue breaks down. I keep a very close eye on it for that reason. I still need her to be in it for 4 more months. that is the estimated time it will take to complete the pond and cycle the water.

That´s what i was thinking about !!!.....(without the drawing on the walls;))
But how do you heat the pool?, will a few aquarium heaters (covered) work?.

I used a 45 mil liner in my ray pond for years.

I would love to tell you that it never leaked but, I cannot. I had to replace it just about once per year. I don't know if they punctured it or chewed through part of it. They often bit at it as if they were trying to scrape some algae off of it.

It was cheap but, I would not use one again.

if its cheap why not use a base liner then have pond liner underlay in between the another layer of liner then if one layer is punctured it will not go all the way through ?

You don't like the kiddy drawings. haha. the pond is on an upper lvl so the floor does not need heating. I have 2 300 watt heaters and a couple of really cheap 200 watt ones that I had to buy from wal-mart because of an emergency before I bought the 300s. I should probably take them out, but they are not hurting anything.. the pond itself is just shy of 200 gallons if it was filled right to the top.

That little pool is just the cutest thing. I don't want to see what the floor will look like in a few months though. I hope you put down some tar paper and another moisture barrier. I have a regular 45 mil liner in my indoor pond for my rays. No problems yet. They have been in there for several months now.
