Home of the brave.
I use fully cooked frozen shrimp to feed my ray. The kind you find at grocery stores. He also eats bloodworms, earth worms and Im trying to get him on pelets. I thaw the shrimp out in hot water and cut up before feeding. He seems to like them very much.

Is this type of shrimp ok or should I be using fresh shrimp/prawns???

Thank you.

Two suggestions.

Stop feeding cooked shrimp. It takes a lot of the nutritional value out of it. Feed raw, uncooked shrimp.

Don't thaw in hot water, thaw it slowly in the fridge overnight. If you MUST thaw in water, put it in a zip lock bag, and run cold water over it. Hot water or fast thawing also depleats the nutritional value.

There's a thread in here about frozen krill. If you dig it up, there is a lot of good info about the 'how and why' on the thawing process and how it impacts the value of the food.

is there any good way to infuse the food with vitamins, without fouling the water too much?

Some will soak food in things like Vitachem. That will often times leach out into your water.

A better idea is a wide varity with in the foods offered.

For rays (or elasmobranch species specifically), Mazuri offers a Shark/Ray vitamin tablet that is a very good supplement.
