Hi, I just bought a Motoro last night 2-10-07 from a LFS I used to work at and he had been there for 3 days b4 I picked him up, the only thing I didn't like was that the water felt like 75 instead of 80 or 82 like I like, but being that I used to work there I knew they would treat me right if anything happened to him so I went ahead and brought him home. My questions are how active are motoros, what do they like to eat the most and do they burry themselves a lot? So far I have tried ghost shrimp, beefheart, and pellets. The soonest any of the LFS can get in blackworms if friday! He has went over to all of them and got on top of them then just swam away.:nilly: Also I have left the aquarium light off sense I got him b/c there is a lot of sunlight in that room and he constantly burrys himself except when its completely dark in the room, then he swims around like crazy.:nilly: Is he just getting used to the tank or is something wrong? Thank you so much for your help!!:grinno:

It is probably fine that the temp was 75 when you got him. There are some ray keepers that keep the temp in the upper 70's but the low 80's are prefered.

I personally would have had the store keep it for a week or two and see how it did there and make sure that it was eating well there before I bought it.

New rays, especially young ones will hide for a while when you get them. Adults, especially long time captives come out of their shells in a new tank much quicker than newly imported ones, so burying itself in the sand it normal.

I would try feeding him cut up shrimp and smelt, and the blackworms when you get him to help fatten him up a lot. Also you should try cut up earthworms.

Good luck with your new ray.

Yeah it should be fine. Mine bury themselves alot. Nightcrawlers arre great...try them. When I first got mine I covered the sides of the tank to give them more security.

Cut up pieces of krill to feed him. It may take a couple of days for him to eat, but get the tank conditions the best you can. Lights off for a few days, Temp 82-84 and burying is very normal. Just keep offering different types of food but be sure to clean out any uneaten food so it doesn't foul your water. GOOD LUCK!
