Ray Substrate?

I hear that sand/fine gravel are what the rays should be kept on. What is the purpose for this? Could you house a Ray on regular gravel?

Hey. they use sand cause its soft on the rays belly. You could use gravel, but has to be round stones. nothing sharp

Rays can bury themselfs in the sand and it makes them feel safe. plus they can get injured on sharp gravel as was stated above.

so could i test out my gravel, it doesnt look sharp atall. i dont know, i want to keep the gravel, i am not a fan of sand/small gravel

you can usually tell by the ray. As the ray wont be happy. Look at the belly, is it red at all? I would just go with sand. As it looks great and the rays love it.
