ray tank mates

You should try and stick to tankmates that will occupy different swimming zones in your tank. Arowanas and cichla are commonly kept with rays successfully. I have seen more than one thread where a CL has fallen victim to the barb of a ray, of course that may have something to do with overcrowding too.
Myself, I keep pike cichlids, a flowerhorn, and a couple SA/CA cichlids with mine. I attribute this successful combo to a fairly light stock list and plenty of room. I also believe that the cichlids are too busy chasing each other to notice the rays. My tank is quite the exception, rather than the rule by a long shot. I have also received a quote on a large acrylic tank for the rays, so it won't stay this way for long.

Wow, you should probably go with arowanas and discus if you want to show some colors. For the messy habits rays may have you probably want to go with catfish that are peaceful and/or Plecos, but find some that people have at these forums, what plecos they keep with theres if any.
I keep an arowana, a tinfoil barb, 5 silver dollars, 2 peacock bass and a thin bar datnoid with my 2 motoro rays. They all seem to get along fine (though the barb is sometimes picked on by the aro if it swims too high).
