At the moment i have a ray tanks and i was wondering if i would be able to have a coral tank as a refugium. At the moment i have a refugium with some live rock in it and a newly added canister filter. I was wondering if the corals would do anything to keep the tank clean or if it would be a waist and would further dirty the tank. Any help is welcome. Thank you

coral do extract nutrients from water. however it's not a very practical means of filtration, one would need a huge amount of coral to notice even the slightest difference in metabolites in the water. if you're going to try it though, go for fast-growing species like xenia, star polyps, etc. clams might do a better job

I would agree...Corals are not really there for nutrient export.....

HOWEVER...........

This might prove to be an interesting read on the subject :D

i remember reading something like that. gotta love xenia. i'll be trying to get them to grow on the walls of my reef when it's fully running, maybe i'll toss some in my fuge as well, see how it competes with my chaeto.
