I am building a tank with a footprint of 7.5 feet long, and 4 feet deep. Not sure what height I should make it or what rays would be a good fit for it.

I think I would like to keep 2 rays if that is possible, in addition to 2-3 Dats, 2 non aggressive medium-large fancy plecos, and maybe a few Geos.

Could you give me a recommendation on tank height and ray type to best suit this tank and possible tank mates?

Thanks for your help!

You might want to look into the possible problems of keeping plecos with rays. Plecos can tend to attach to the rays disc and cause stress and damage. Motoros would be a good start as they are a hardy ray and not too expensive. Leopoldi rays are just as easy to keep but 3 times the price (or more)

Thanks for the info everyone.

I had read some good and bad about plecos and rays. It seemed that the bad was from people keeping plecos that should not have been kept with them(meat and slime coat eaters). A lot of people dont realized different plecos have a wide variety of diets and just lump them all together.

My plan was to have 2 panaques. If it really is a bad idea I will of course abort the idea.

Pleco are not worth the risk - IMO

Thanks, I'll just steer clear of plecos, I have plenty of other big tanks for them :D

Would something like a pair of rays, 3 Dats and a school of Bala sharks be reasonable in the tank? Filtration and WCs wont be a problem.

Rays would probably try to eat bala sharks. The best tank mates for rays is more rays!
