Ray With A Rash??

Hay Everybody, I recently post a thread about my cuz wanting another pay pup. Well he got one. He ordered it from a site that does Same Day Shipping or Next Day Air, don't know for sure. Well he said there is no problems until he nopticed the female swimming on the glass. He looked at her belly and saw a lot of red marks which he refers to "Ray Rash." He has the same sand as me which is Estes marine sand. His other ray he said looks compltely good on the bottom, no red marks. I was about to tell him "Why don't you do a 25-50% water change and add aquarium salt" Just want to check with you guys. Thanks

Well is thier a way to cure it? That must be it, like you said from shipping.

Definitely sounds like ammonia burn, just keep the water clean and it should heal itself, maybe add some salt if you feel the ray is stressed out.

Ok then thanks gshock. I will tell him to continue the weekly water changes probably 30-40% and add some salt.

Yes, sounds like ammonia burn. If the water parameters are in check, the burn will go away in a few days.

do you add salt directly into the tank? wont it hurt the rays wwhen it get near the salt?

no, dissolve the salt in a bucket with water first. if the rays lay ontop of the salt before it dissolves is can burn them.

Well my cousin called to thank you. He said the amonioa burn is competely gone! It looks brand new he says.
