ray with NO STINGER

I have a hystrix that is from Pedro, one of the first brought in after the ban was lifted. IT was a baby @ about 3" when i got him.

I have had him since about nov. 08, now 10 months later, at about 5-5.5" or so, he finally shed his stinger, which is weird most of my rays shed every 3-4 months hystrix included.

Most rays have a replacement stinger when they shed, but he does not have one. He has no stinger right now. Anybody ever seen a stingerless ray.?
 
all of my rays always grew a new on before the old one fell out. One of my female motoros has he sting broke off, when I was trasnsfering to her new tank. We will see what happens. I am guessing a new one will develop.

I think your hystrix will evetually grow another one. Hystrix for some reason seem to be slow in everything compared to motoros and other rays. Pregnancy, growth, maturing, etc.
 
Keepin, one of the marbles (female) I bought came in without a stinger. I have had her for a little
over 4 weeks without any signs of replacement until this morning. I think I see the tip
of a new one growing. Either that or I straining to hard to see one.;)
 
Haha it is odd but I would prefer one without a stinger.... I would be less fearful of petting the little guy ;)
 
Just wondering if your hystrix ever started to grow its stinger back. My female Marble came in
without one, had her for 5 weeks before it started to grow in. Its now 7 weeks andit is now
appx 3/8 long. Don't know how long she went without one before Igot her at 5" since she was WC.
 
Mine went without a stinger for quite some time after his first shed but it definitely grew back eventually.
