what are everyone's views on rays and carbon. on my 175, i ran a 300gph canister filter with about a 1/2g of carbon and changed it every 3 months a or so.

any down sides of rays and carbon

i dont actually use carbon at all with my tank. I find that with enough fine particle filtration and water changes theres no need for carbon with my tanks. just takes up filter space i think

i agree. i havent used it in over 2 years but i have a 5g bucket full in the attic and i just burnt out 1/3rd of my filtartion. so until i get a new filter...hoping santa brings an fx5...i'll put some in my filter

I think Carbon when used properly has no issues. To me it is not needed unless I am removing meds, but I am a bio filtration junky

Carbon will sometimes cause a crash in pH. Just watch out for that.
