Has anyone kept ray's with any type of eels, or is that a no no? Preferably the fire eel.

No probs at all but my fire eel jumped out of a tiny crack at 2ft long, I didn't find him until the next day. Make sure every single tiny crack is sealed....I really could not work out how he got out of a 1 inch gap which had Perspex on top and weighted down.

I wonder if they have a need to migrate which is so strong that they force their way out, if this is true then we shouldn't keep them.

Most /all are wild caught, full of worms and parasites and many Die due to non feeding. I loved mine and had him from a non feeding 3 inch eel but I wouldn't have another.

They may pass on some nasties to the rays too.

Mine hand fed and was growing weekly, I am sure it would have hit way over 3 foot long andover 10 inches around.

I may not post on here much, but that is one combo I have done for many years, and will say 100% works GREAT!!, I had my last Fire eel at 28-30" (3.5-4" girth) and never once had an issue with him and my rays (male 10-12", female 14"+, (disc size)). they always got along great, i have since lost my eel due to other reasons (hard to keep long term(bacteria infections)) but that is deff one of my fav combo's i want another eel, but i am gonna wait till i can get a much bigger tank.

Sean.

Thanks all, I am thining about adding one to my cpollection but I have to figure out how to seal off all the excape areas.

I had this combo for two years (12" histrix and a 25" fire eel). But i decided to move out the eel couple of months ago, - The eel had found out that it could steal food from the ray by forcing it`s way under the disk... and not only did he force he`s way in, but he also went in like a damn torpedo, scaring the hell out of the ray - stressing it out pretty bad.

Other than this i never had any problems.
