I'm new to rays but not water.

Just like to see what everyone s Nitrates average out at. I know low nitrates are good but would like to see if people are having success with higher Nitrates. I believe high nitrates with lower KH is more toxic then with high KH so I'm sure there is other factors that play along with the high nitrates as well.

Luckily my Nitrate never go above 10 but I only have (2) 7-8inch marbles and 8 discus

around 5 to 10 PPM on the main tank at the worst, usually lower. Drip about 3.5 GPH and do water changes every other week at 50% or better to remove any suspended solids. Will also vac if I see anything that needs to be removed. 300G with 2262 CFS 500 CFS 700.

Currently two adult Jags, two adult motoros, 2 kels at 14", 5 gars from 12" to 20".

Successfully bred two litters out of this set up and hopefully have a couple pregnancies as well.

Jim, how many GPH or GPD do you drip? Your tank is pretty heavily stocked
Hi mate
I honestly have no idea!
I set the water changer up 4 years ago, it comes on in the morning for 3 hours and afternoon for 3 hours (I don't drip) it comes on full bore in the summer and a little less then full bore in the winter as the temp drops too much in the winter.
This is how I set it up and it has worked for me so I don't mess with it.

I spit my coffee out reading this lmfao
Lol yeah it's the truth. I know some people are really into every aspect of their water parameters which is great but that's just not me. Keeping rays is one of my hobbies and its something I find enjoyable and want to keep it that way. I've had roughly 8 litters from 2 different pairs of rays. Everyone is happy and healthy. Imo no need to overthink things. I've been doing this a long long time lol
