The deep south
Picked up a new ray from a friend and its larger than i expected. He's currently in a standard 300 (8'x2'). I'd like to give him the pleasure of a 9'x4' footprint but its my pond liner tank. Should i be concerned of a potential puncture? Anyone else keeping larger rays on a liner?

I would not be concerned with the puncture with it's stinger but would be more concerned with it chewing a hole in the liner. Does you pond have substrate or a tile bottom? I had my jaguar pair in a pond with pond liner for over a year but I put tile in the bottom to keep them from biting through. That is a nice looking male marble/motoro you got yourself.

Thanks for the quick response fishdog, the tank has a large smooth pebble substrate but its fairly light so im sure he could still chew through. Heres the tank.

Tile is a good idea i may have to go that route.

Looks great Russ!

As long as the rocks aren't too sharp/coarse.
I wouldn't be overly concerned with him biting through. He was always more about being active and swimming mid water.
Black rays are a whole other story all together though with chewing lol.

Thanks Reed, cant thank you enough for all the help with my new drip systems and this beautiful ray, he's been eating like a champ this week and acclimated very well. I've already been looking for a female for him but im worried the 300 cant hold them both for long. I'm not at all worried of the rocks not being smooth enough, they were expensive lol and have a nice finish on them. I'm sure he could just as easily chew through the side of the tank tho so i'll give it a week or so to think about before I bother him with another move. My best bet may be to clear my 8'x3' gator tank out for him. He's o.k. where he's at for the time being but I like to spoil everybody so I feel bad haha...

Anyone else have any opinions? Seems like its not that great of an idea. Even if i use tile on the bottom theres really no way i can keep anything up on the liner walls.

He should be fine in that tank. They do not chew much on the sides like they do the bottom. I say that while I have a large scratch on my acrylic windows from my jag female. Marbles are not that aggressive so I would not worry

Nice stingray. I always thought with your fish addiction you should have 5 or more. Lol. Heck with your space you should have more than me. I have seen people just fine with pond liners and also have seen a rare case of a pond liner getting a leak as well. I would say 90% chance all will be perfect for ever and 10% you might be one of the few that has issues. The odds are in your favor

Thankyou my friend, i was hoping to hear from u over here in the ray section. I have had up to a dozen rays at once even a 22" wide female floating around but got out of it couple yrs back due to the matinence. Now that everythings on the auto drip i feel confident i can house then properly now. Anyway thanks again for the advice, i like the odds uve given me lol... i think ill move him soon here, hes very active and i just dont like him crammed in a 300.

Ya with rays it always seems like bigger would be better but then at times they all pile one on top of the other and they take up almost no room. I like the chain link style lines on the outer edge that ray has.
