Of course I know its not possible to keep FW rays outdoors year long, however has anyone heard of or tried to do this successfully during the summer months? It seems possible to me and I bet the direct sunlight would do the rays some good!

Check you local regulations. A lot of states that allow private owners to keep them have rules about keeping them outdoors. Also, check with your home owners insurance. Having a venomous animal outside may require you to fence the pond in. to prevent some idiot from falling in and getting hurt.

I think the ray would be OK, until you get a cold night.

I was thinking of doing somewhat the same thing but with sharks. Seemed like the perfect idea and would have been a cool lagoon but the racoons or somthing definattly would have gotten to them or a freak weather pattern so I decided not too. I am sure if you took all the right actions and what not it would work and be pretty cool.

Here in Florida, all f/w stingrays are illegal except the dasyatis sp., aka the freshwater Atlantic stingray. Apparently all the other rays are capable of living and reproducing in the lakes and rivers. So if you wanted to move down here you could do it. My pond doesn't have a heater and my fish do fine.

We have some people in Europe keeping their raysin outdoor ponds. Off course you have to heat the pond and this costs a lot of money.
