Rays shed excess slime whenever they are stressed .It is nerve wracking to see a good sized ray sliming excessively in the tank. There is most likely an underlying factor in it be it less than perfect water, aggression or not fully acclimated.

Has any ray keeper observed this "slime" ? What do you do if it happens?

I have seen it happen once when a friend moved his ray from one tank to another. He had a ammonia spike and unfortunatly the ray did not pull through.

I agree. Usually I've seen in hand in hand with the stress related to a sudden swing in water quality. The best reaction is put them into better water and run a higher DO level for an time while they recover.

Yeah massive water change (with diff water params) and stress makes rays slough off their slime coat. It is specially unnerving if you see a large ray sliming off like that.

Agreed with the High Oxygen , monitor the water quality and the ray if healthy should be fine.
