I never knew you can feed your rays with feeders.. Not that I want to feed mines with it, but just watching them catch one looks awesome..

You can, they're just completely worthless nutrition wise

i always hear this, but i never understood how you can make so broad a statement, if fish are completely worthless nutrition wise how to you explain the paratrygon aiereba which is a piscivore

the fact is fish can provide good nutrition, you just have to make sure they are the right fish and not feed them complete junk(read:breed your own)

edit:im not suggesting a piscivore type diet for any ray, or even as a staple but in a good balanced diet, i dont see it being bad in the rotation

 I think that's exactly the point of the statement; those particular fish (cold water goldfish feeders) are not the right fish . Nutrtional value is poor & prone to disease. If you breed them or sufficiently quarantine, I guess an ocassional treat's ok, but most FW trops need a varied diet of much more to be healthy. "T"

meh i just prefer a whole picture, as opposed to the partial picture mentioned to the newbies in most threads around here :P

;) Agree. You're right. Someone unfamiliar could get the wrong idea. Being explicit is generally better. "T"

First off we're talking about feeders, not FISH in general. From what I can see in the video, they are being fed guppies I think.
Basically, feeder goldfish are not commonly found where Paratrygon aeireba is found. They eat a variety of other fish. In a closed environment such as your home aquarium, it would be either impossible, or rediculously expensive to recreate such diets. Therefore, most "feeders" that are used are feeder goldfish, mollies, guppies, and other cheap, yet small "feeder" fish. These have close to none, if any at all nutritional value and feeder goldfish are actually harmful due to the thiamines found in them. This just makes them completely useless and a waste of time. Plus, live feeders aren't recommended, they run a BIG risk of internal parasites and other diseases. One bad feeder may cost you a very expensive ray. Not a good idea. Also a big waste of money breeding them yourself, the money you use to feed your feeders to make them somewhat nutritious could've went into just buying pellets for your rays.
