Hello everyone.

I was wondering if anybody has ever tried to keep rays with an mbu puffer?
I was told that the mbu will most likely bite off the rays eyes?

Any information would help me, thanks!

Very risky and highly unlikely combo, thou amazingly Ive actually done it. Ill post pictures up tonight. Aside from the eyes the puffer might also bite the rays tail.

All depends on the rays and puffers personality.

Machete from the other fish forum tried it and ended up, surprisingly, with a dead 22" mbu with a ray stinger stuck in it! :(

i wouldnt risk it thats for sure

the mix would be nice but no way i would risk my rays

Also to consider is parameters.

Mbu: prefers hard neutral to alkaline conditions.
rays: prefer soft neutral to acidic conditions.

And, puffers have a habit of regurgitating partially digested meals that can upset water conditions for the rays.

Every time someone suggests puffers and rays, I just keep thinking about how badly rays do not like to be picked on and puffers love to fin nip. and the rays need their eyes to live. There is just a lot wrong with the combination, although I know that there is always someone who is able to pull it off, good or bad.

hi!

i already have the mbu and he has never nipped on the fins of his tankmates. he is 6'' now and the tankmates are dats, cichlids allenbatrachus grunniens and a few catfish.
the two rays i will get will be 8'' diameter.
i will atleast try the combo and carefully watch the mbu.
thanks for all the quick replies!
