Hi all,

I'm about to order me two of these guys.

Has anyone kept these turtles with any fish? I'm thinking along the lines of Oscars/Green Terrors. Large but not overly large & aggressive cichlids (Dovii, peacock bass, etc.)
They have them listed as ~5-6 inches max and mostly aquatic that like to hang out in the deeper waters. Would this species go after smaller cichlids like Bolivian Rams? Just wondering because I curently have a 55 gallon planted community tank but will be purchasing a larger aquarium as soon as I move. And of course I would provide over over OVER filtration if I were to try them with fish :grinyes:

And if anyone can share info with their experience with these guys that would be helpful!

thanks!

oscars will not fit, green terrors would be a stretch. In any case yes they would eat your fish.

is the reasoning due to size? aggression? feeding? combination?

Ive kept 10 small musk turtles together with gars and an oscar and jag. They would try to nip fins but were too slow.

I was just curious. I figured they would eat small community fish and maybe nip at fins of larger cichlids. Thanks

For the most part this species is not an active fish hunter since it eats mainly crustaceans and mollusks so you'll probably be fine with larger cichlids but every turtle is different and some are more predatory than others.

It seems that these guys do better with fish than others for a while, but eventually they have a bad day and decide the fish look tasty.
