usually my 4 reds dont do fu** all except sit there in a row but the last 2 days they have acting weird.swimming one by one straight after one another into the filter outlet.then turning their back to it and pausing for a few secounds then breaking the water surface with thier tail fin. they have been doing it for hours today its the strangest thing to watch.i tried to video it but the tank has no lights so you cant see nothing:(

How long have you had them? If they are relativly new maybe they have become use to their tank now and are more bold to swim around. My Ps love swimming in the current so maybe that is what they are trying to to do. Add a power head if you havent.

i have had them over 6 months thats why it seems so strange.never seen them behave like this before.

they are probably just comfortable in the tank. and deffinately add a strong powerhead. that will make them swim more and burn more energy, which will make them eat more and grow faster.

alot of piranhas do this. mine liked to break heaters in half. i think its their way of showing aggression. if they start gitting darker that is a sign of breeding. males get dark females get lighter.

do you mean the red gets lighter or darker?how hard is it to get red bellies to breed?

Yea, sounds like they need a power head, they will turn almost black when they are ready to breed, two will pair off and build a nest, can be a bad thing as they will defend it with thier lives, hopefully you have a larger tank. in my opinion breeding is the ultimate success in piranha keeping

the reds will start swimming in circles and start waging at each other. good water condiction and lighting help temp at around 80f.
