I have few 3" RBP in my tank, how big can they grow in a year? I had them for a while now, feed them well, but they dont seem to grow till now

what size tank you keep them in? what do you feed them and how frequent you feed them? water parameter and water change schedule??

should grow about 1" a month til they hit about 6" or so then slow down to maybe 1"-2" or so a year...and slows down a lot after first few years

thanks, I put them in the outdoor pond, I gave them feeders, goldfish sometimes, frogs, should I give them something else?
cheers

how often do you feed yours?and what kind of food do you feed them?
thanks

what's the temperature of the pond and how big is the pond? feeders/goldfish aren't the best food source for piranhas, but they should still be able to reach 6" at least. where did you get the frogs from? maybe some crazy parasites stealing their nutrients??? you can try fish filets, shrimp, squids, etc. is there any filtering device on the pond? make sure you take out any leftover (if the pond isn't too big that you couldn't reach the leftover)

when I had rbps, I fed mine at least once a day. when they are small you should feed couple times a day. you can try feed them the same time when you are having your meals. at 3" two times a day should be well enough. one in the morning and one at night. at 4 or 5" you can feed one a day or even every other day if you want.

thanks for the info, I live in a tropical country, so let say around 27 C, the pond is around 1000 galls, with plants growing on top, as for the frogs, they are wild, soon when they reach 6" I'm going to move them into 100galls tank, I think I will try other food like you said and see how it goes with it, is it bad to over feed piranha?thanks again

if there's a 1000g tank and you only have few rbps in there then you can just add some talipias in there to let them breed then free feeder fish for your piranhas.
if they can't finish what you feed them then they'll go bad and foul the water.

jp gave you awesome info. Just to add from what I've read, gold fishes and some other feeders that aren't quarantined contain some kinda parasites that affects the growth of ps if fed on a regular basis but if they are quarantined that should be ok. Also vary their diet and you will get the best results. Within a year they should be able to hit atleast 6-7" if kept properly. Post some pics tho! ^ I agree with the tilapia idea!
