I have always loved these fish and I had some 15 years ago.

I decided to start a new school, so I bought the last 11 my lfs had in stock a few months ago. I started them in a 29gal tank with the plan to move them into the 100gal once they grew. I didn't know about the 20gal per fish "rule" at the time. I kind of thought a few would not make in this long, but they are all still swimming away.

The smallest is nearly 2 inches.

Could I move them all to the 100gal for a short time, or do I need to sell some off???

welcome to mfk.. toanswer your question..i dont see a problem with moving them all to the larger tank then culling as they get larger.. i actually think that is the best way to go.. that way you assure yourself with the strongest and prettiest of the 11.. i would say at about 5 inches they will start to quarrel amongst themselves at it will be time to start removing some.. good luck.. ohh btw we are having a piranha photo contest so if you have any pictures of your stock post 1 up the the ppotm thread..

20 gallon per fish rule is a great rule. but there are ways to get around it. If your filtration is FREAKING GREAT and feed all the time. with lots of hiding spots. it is semi avoidable. but to keep them happier in the long run it is better to grow them out and sell off some of the weaker looking ones. If you can't sell them privatly you can allways find a LFS and sell them back to them for stor credit.
