somewhere close to you...
I have a general question:

I currently have 11 RBP's in a 240 gal tank...they are between 4-5 inches and are about 6-7 months old (time I have owned them)at best....they seem to have lost the red in there bellies...I noticed this a few months ago and thought they might be in a growth spurt but nothing...

They are defiantly are RBP's first of all...Some of the larger ones have a slight touch of red under there bottom jaw/gill but when they where younger there jaws and bellies where bright red...they are mostly charcoal Grey and fade to a silverish tone underneath...

Any ideas as to what or why they have lost their red belly look?

could be lots of factors (water params, diet, stress level, background/substrate color). is market shrimp a part of your ps diet? i've heard it can help bring the red out

Your lil guys are growing up and showing adult coloration
yeah i agree sometimes this happens at a younger age on certain piranhas. Genetics and water parameters probably have a lot to do with it.

For example my piranhas are 6-7 inches now and still have very prominent red bellies which i credit to thier diet that includes market shrimp and hikari massivore pellets.

It Allways happens ... :popcorn:No thing to worry about , Its normal ...

In a tank that big ? GET A MIX SChole :D You would be much happy :) .

Loose all plants and decor , Paint the back of tank black and go sand for sub ,,, Black sand . The P's will show much color ... get good lighting for vewing .

The Reds with proper diet and H2O quality shuld reach 10 inch in 12 months NO PROBLEM And fatten up real big ..

Feed pellet diet " HIKARI" :headbang2

Your P's will flurish :naughty:

i disagree with painting your background dark colosr to bring out the red. i actually think light colors do better, that's from comparing my ps to what i see from other people.

10 inches in 12 months also? even if we're talking about a year from now i doubt he'll reach that big from 5-7 inches in just a year

Thanks for the advice....

I feed them tilapia chunks, pellets, and about once a month a big feeder fish (usually 3-5in)
Water levels seem fine but i guess its been a month and half since I last did a water change...

I'll do one tomorrow morning and I'll post if there is any change...

thanks again guys....

a month and a half since water change? you might want to get a better schedule then that. That is way too long between water changes imo
