Would a RD and a frontosa be ok with other cichlids or even with each other. I am new to cichlids and would like to put some in my 55g. Trying to figure out what I like and I am interested in these two so far. And also any suggestions would be great!

I wouldn't try it in a tank that size. Red devils should have a 75 gallon to themselves when grown. Also, a frontosa is an african cichlid and a red devil is CA. They have completely different water parameters and territorial displays. I would try a breeding pair of any ca/sa cichlids that stay under 10 inches or so. Like jack dempseys, convicts, severums or a small group of geophagus or firemouths.

Fronts aren't as aggressive as an RD. It would be able to take the abuse. Also Fronts like to be with Fronts in groups. They are two totally different water parameters. RD's need 75 gallons absolute minimum because they can get to 13". Also i've seen fronts attain sizes of 16 inches and i personally wouldn't even try to put one in a 75. The min i would go with a front is 150 gallons because of the added width rather than a 125 with only 18 inches of width.

The RD will murder the Frontosa. Both individually get too big for a 55.
