i picked up a rd wen he was about 2 inch 4 months ago now pushing almost 8 inch getting realy mean he turned on my midas and they got along realy well till i moved the tank decor around half an hour later he was dead (the midas) so now he has a 90 all to him self i feed him cichlid gold and guppys what else can i give him to boost up his growth i tried a doz.feeder gold fish but he just killed them all in 5 min and didnt eat them he gets blood worms one day for a snack and the next he gets brine shrimp i realy love this guy i want him to be a real monster

yep when i moved decor round jag went mental attacking my oscars,so took him out redid tank and now alls ok again,,anyhow now this ones all you got?unless you get a bigger tank maybe its best to leave it at that?

try shrimp or a differant staple such as cichlid sticks or some freezedried foods.. blood worms should be fine and at 8 inches he should be getting more of a variety than just brine shrimp and blood worms and try to avoid feeders, they may carry internal diseases and are normally not very nutritional

id just keep on doing what your doing, try to cut down the feeders, fun to watch but its like giving them lard to eat, well at least if you feed thrm goldfish

that was the firs time i gave hime gold fish yesterday he just killed them and left them there i have herd of people giving there bigger cichlids small cat food too ?

i wouldn't give any more feeder fish, you are just asking for trouble. why risk getting a beautiful red devil sick just to see it hunt something down. hikari gold is a good staple and brings out the red color nicely. I also feed mine krill, blood worms, mysis shrimp, shrimp pellets, and earth worms. if you insist on feeding fish, do yourself and the rd a favor and get some frozen silversides. much safer. just read the rest of your posts....there is no way you should feed cat food either! also, if you feed a healthy, varied diet your red devil will continue to get big. after about two years though, it will slow down, and will take about one more year for the last couple of inches.

I agree that the feeder fish is asking for trouble. There are lots of other food that can boost growth. High protein shrimp, squid and other forzen as well as a variety of pellets is best. Perhaps try live inverts such as ghost shrimp, worms and crickets. Try a little bit at a time but often. I feel it important to mention that while a proper diet can do wonders on growth water quality is even more important. Other factors come into play as well such as photoperiod, temp and stress.

^What they said, but Red Terrors are Omnivorous, so they need vegetables every so often. I feed my Midas, Texas, and Jack Dempsey lettuce and cucumber slices, even my young Dovii eats them.

It;s alot of different of foods that you can feed the goldfish sometime if they are quartined first butbif yiu want to feed live things try ghost shrimp.
