sorry a little off the topic but is a devil and midas the EXACT same or whats the difference?

They are almost the same fish but in fact, 2 different species. It's the common names that create the confusion. Which is why I look at it as if there are "2 different types" of Red devils. The main differences is really just the body shape, mouth, and head area.

Anyways to the topic creator.....

I'd also like to get a nice pic of my fish's vent but it's so damn hard to get it because he is just too fast. Any advice on taking a nice shot of the underbelly like you did in this thread?
Thx

I just get really close to the glass (almost touching it) and click as many shots as the fish passes by as you can. Do a couple dozen shots and then look through and pick the best ones. My camera also has a macro setting which seems to help with the close-ups as well.

Thanks for the info! Do they get the same size?

Unless you get your fish from an importer and know exactly where the fish came from (Rapps) or it is bred from wild pure strain fish, they are all variations of a RD/Midas hybrid. They may exhibit varying characteristics of each.
Midas are typically more stocky with a shorter "face" and more round mouth.

This link has some interesting info: http://www.cichlidae.com/article.php?id=106

 Thank you the reason Im asking is because I planning on breeding one with my blood parrot since the male is sterile and she is way ready to lay some eggs,so I was wondering what would make a better batch of fry!
