Canada, eh.
When I picked up an 8" male RD a month ago, he had a nice looking nuchal hump. Within days of being in his new home (solo), his hump decreased dramatically and has never come back. Anything I can do to bring out hump again besides adding another RD?

I should add that his water parameters are perfect, gets 50% water changes weekly, and is being fed a combo of Hikari Gold and NLS pellets.

i'v read if you put up a mirror to him some times they come dack up.

place a mirror on the side of the tank for maybe a few hours out of the day AT THE MOST no more

divide the tank off and add a female

or just add a few other cichlids for him to beat up on

THESE ARE ALL WAYS TO BRING THAT WATERHEAD BACK

basically i a nutshell GIVE HIM SOMETHING TO TRY TO SCARE OR FLIRT WITH

reflection, a girl, or an enemy

Get some protien in him nightcrawlers, shrimp, beefheart, it is also horamone realated as well i have noticed in my female devil that her nochal hump becomes huge about a week befor spawning. Then after about a week it deflates and she goes to her side of the tank where the male can't bother her due to a divider. My male rd's nochal hump does change in size slightly from time to time and it seems to be when i run out of real meat for them and they are just eating hikari pellats for a few days.I usualy feed twice a day once with pellates and then later with 1 of the above meats it should do the trick.

Sike him out with your fingers and stuff, thats all I do with mine is stir him up.
Be warned, once he develops a hatred of your finger/fist putting your hand in the tank is dangerous:grinno:

Thanks for the input fellas. I'll try uping the protein intake and the mirror trick and see what happens.

As far as being a glass banger, he's all over that. He's almost tagged me countless times. One of these days he's gonna strike.

I second this! I cant even put the gravel cleaner in there without him going nuts at it trying to kill it (silly RD). If i try to move his rocks around he tries to get between the rock and the object i am using to move it. Any one got bitten by a RD/Midas and was it painful? I tempting finding out...
