ok im infatuated with red devil , midas fish for some reason and am wondering about growth rate , tank size etc any help appreciated:headbang2

Depending on food and water conditions RD's grow pretty fast up to about 8" then slow down a bit and can max out around 12". IMO you should have atleast 75 gal tank or so for a single adult.

for females u need a 55 gallon.for males u need at least a 75 for one. They do grow fast and need alot of filtration. They have been known to get 14 inches long and get very mean.

my single fmale hit 11.5inches in a 55gal and my male maxed at about 13ish in his cutsom 79gal. but ya for males standard 75 is minimum. if you plan to house a breeding pair you could prob do a 100gal but id recommend a 125gal.

very mean yes thats what attracted me to them, saw one at my lfs and it tried to attack me when i approached lol kinda like the pit bull of the fishie world

i woul start off with at least a 55 or 75 gallon tank and start off with a few individual fish, this way you can choose which fish you want in the end.. as for growth choose a high quality pellet or frozen food, and do regular water changes, this will help your fish grow faster.

yea i would get a 75 and get probaly 3 so they will pair up and then when they grow up together they will share the 75.

ok i got a juvie from my fish store yesterday, put him in my 55 and want to put a con in with him would they fight? The con had fry but are big enough to hold there own now and wont go in the 55 with her. Am i askin for trouble ? A 75 will be there home in a couple months

get a Trimac. So far my little Trimacs are PURE EVIL and are much meaner for their size than any fish I have ever owned. I bought three when they were about an inch long and they were lip locking in the back while I was acclimating the temp! they are ruthless and seem to be trying to kill everything that is not a Trimac. And they are very cool looking.
