Algae cleanup as well as just a tankmate to add a little action... Pleco can prbably survive better but isnt a good cleanup. I can add hides for either, they should be able to come out at night... As long as he doesnt flip their hides and get to them i imagine they will be smart enough to stay put while he can see them.

So, Syno Eupterus or Pleco Sailfinnius/Comminus (can be removed when bigger)

If neither has a chance lemme know. When i owned this guy previously he tried to kill a syno (and multitudes of others) but he may have changed.

I have a soft spot for pleco's so I vote you get one of those.

In 6ft tank, with hides, after many months together, all of my Amphs (and midevils) have eventually wiped out pleco tank mates. Generally, just for sport, they were killed, and left.

Ok so im seeing syno as off the list. Pleco or nothing.

This is just something interesting that ive noticed in terms of tankmates. He has tried to kill everything i have put with him ever (ive owned him 3 times now, but before he was only 6 in and much more boring) except for this tiny Con fry that has been in the tank. This little dude has been living in the tank for months after all his siblings were eaten. He doesnt get a supple of small food so he grows kind of slow, but he has hit an inch and is getting braver (or dumber) and venturing out of the coner behind the flowerpot. He swam out to the middle of the tank and hid under a piece of wood. This is the only fish my RD hasnt tried to kill. He has seen him for sure, he went up to the space behind the pot and stared at the Con but didnt try to get him...

Maybe i have found a tankmate lol... image.jpeg the con is in the little wood thing off to the right now... Its kinda in open water.

I wouldn't do either unless the pleco is already a good size, and IF you did I would add 3-6 Raphaels . They're heavy armored and a good way to redirect the Devil's attention from constantly bombarding the Pleco.....have lots of caves and hidespaces the bottom-feeders can fit, but the Devil can NOT......and don't just eye-it-up either....He will fit into much smaller spaces you would ever believe me telling you. IMO, the more armored bottom-feeders the better if ANY, so if you want to mix them with the Devil and risk it, get a bunch of them to dilute his aggression and never allow the same fish to get picked constantly. Think of them as Dithers at this point, cuz they more-or-less are.

Also, don't put anything in there that can fit into his mouth. Raphaels and a lot of catfish are Kamikaze on their way out and tend to kill whatever tries to eat them.....and yes, Amphilophids are that stupid and aggressive to do it, before you ask ;)

2nd thought, Plecos don't even eat algae anyway. grab half a dozen Chinese Algae-eaters and half a dozen raphaels and you'll be good, just get good robust healthy ones.....forget the pleco and save yourself 50% more work

Adding so many more fish to teh tank seems like a lot of bioload. I would just like a bottom feeder to get the food he doesnt eat and alge if possible.

He has started eating abit better now, but when stuff sinks he seems to think he is too high and mighty to eat off of the floor. So it stays there and passes my notice sometimes. The little Con doesnt eat enough to make a difference lol.

Raphaels might be ok, i forgot about how armoured they are. And i dont doubt that an Amph would try to eat one... Hmm...

Bichirs maybe? They are armored as well but idk if they could hunker down and deal with it like a rapheal.

Also i would use like 2 inch PVC. If he could fit in that i will have to seriously rethink everything science class has taught me...

He is 5" tall but i would probably go 3.5" diameter max to be safe
