Hi...i know not to paint the hood or any thing with it on the tank....but the stand, is that ok to paint while the tank is on stand and set up? or would i have to dismantle the tank etc and take it off the stand?? im just worried about fumes etc? thanks

Set up a fan in the window and point it outside. If the room has a second window, keep it closed because dust/pollen can settle in the paint. Open a window in another room for cross ventilation.

Ryto thanks guys...ill do it at the weekend :D....what colour do you think? im torn between black and white, the varnish is crap and peeling...so needs a lick of paint...thanks

sand, prime, then paint, or it will probably scratch off. If your worried about water hurting your paint job, from maybe a water change or such, by an outdoor latex paint (it will have alot more ammonia smell) but once dry outdoor latex or acrylic can handle just about any weather, makes a nice candidate for a long lasting, nice looking stand.

use latex paint (odourless) you dont have to worry about so much about ventilation then.

I had my stand all black before, I switched to a much lighter cream color and I like it alot more than I did the black.

I painted mine to match the room. No one notices but it looks great.

Well guys i decided to go white, to match the walls etc, its only half done, but makes a hell of a difference to both the room and tank appearence...ill post pics probs tomorrow when its finished :D thanks for all who helped....

You have to sand off the stain first! If you just paint over that then it will peal off!!!

I can't stand red colored wood lol.

Its been sanded off :D, well deeply scratched if not all removed...was a right pain in the backside sanding it down, even with the electric sander haha...somming out good tho, stay tuned...
