So i want to get into saltwater keeping i have experience keeping herps but that of course is neither here nor there but more a testament to my commitment to hobbies. Which books would you recommend to a begginer in the hobby, what would be the best stuff to read. I am particularly interested in keeping a reef tank, im more into the inverts so if there were any books geared towards reef tanks.
cheers and thanks

Welcome to the world of saltwater. The best reading material that i have learned the most from is online forums. Reading them, posting questions and browsing through their online articles. I have read a few books about saltwater though. Saltwater Aquariums for dummies isnt too bad for a beginners book, you wont find a whole lot of saltwater stuff here. I would recommend trying reefcentral.com. I found answers to alot of questions I had there.
Good luck

Greats books to learn about inverts are Julian Sprungs books, he has all three volumes out now. A great book also for new saltwater people is The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner.

Welcome to the saltwater world, here are some links to those books

These book are well worth it, and your on a great track of researching and wanting to know which books are the best. Best of luck :clap

That is great ill start there thanks for the info guys. I also have a question i have not found a concrete answer to, is it possible, or rather feasible to run a small reef setup in a 33 gal tank, i know, i know this is all about huge tanks and fish here but im a lowly begginer :)

WOW I am awestruck, there is just so much innovation and ingenuity in this hobby, i have a lot more reading to do before i get started, this idea of Nano-reefs is amazing. Im seriously considering dumping some of my terrestrial animals to get funding, what is the most cost efficient way to proceed in this hobby, everything looks very pricey. I dont mean to sound cheap i just want to be a part of it on a least cost if possible basis.
cheers

the consciencous marine aquarium and the new marine aquarium are my 2 fav books i recomend them

Do you have online places in CANADA where you can order fish stuff? If not there are quite a few places in the U.S that you can order fish stuff from.

When you are new to salt, my advice is bigger is always better. Nano tanks are neat, and can be just as cool as a big tank, but there is hardly any room for error as with a big tank, plus you limit yourself to very small fish and inverts. A 29g or a 37g would be as small as I would recomend in the beginning and that really is too small, like I said bigger is better. But it can be done, here is a 37g tall tank (same dimensions as a 29g but 3 inches taller)

Another thing to do to save money is check the paper and you local forums/clubs for used equipment. People are always upgrading and or have boxes of stuff in the closet that they dont use and would sell to you to get you started.

As for Canadian suppliers, I dont know, I do know Marine Depot and Premium Aquatics ship to Canada. I know there are a few tank manufactures up there, but their names elude me.
