So I am resealing a 220g i bought (think its an older tank). I have removed the silicone and i noticed the bottom piece of glass has a larger gap about 1/8in on one end than the other (the long ends) . Is this a problem? Also, because of the larger gap will that affect the reseal i.e the adhesiveness since silicone wont adhere to silicone? If I remove the existing silicone from the gap i will be removing the silcone that holds the bottom pane. My thinking is leave the silicone in the gap (again holding the pane) and make sure that i put a nice bead of silicone.

I would like to hear from those who have experience or may have seen this before.

As a side note, any suggestions on what type of silicone i should use? I've seen and read the threads but would like to here from those who've done it on large tanks.

I would think that a 1/8" gap would be acceptable and since you are not just laying silicone on just the gap you will be fine. For the most part the silicone will be in contact with the other panes of glass. A good tip I got from another person on MFK was to wait 3 days or so to let it cure ( I waited a week ) and then fill it with water and let it sit for a few days ( again I let it sit for over a week ). In my case I removed the bottom pane and resealed, but it couldn't hurt to avoid spilling 220g on your floor. Also be sure to fill it to the top, my tank would only leak when filled above half and the leak was on the bottom.

Thanks for the advice. Seems like no other comments so i am just going to silcone and test. Cross your fingers. I probably wont sleep the whole night i water test.
